On November 22, 2016, President Barack Obama granted a commutation of sentence to Jimmy Lee Carter, who was convicted in the Middle District of Alabama in 2003 of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base, possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride (two counts), possession of cocaine hydrochloride, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine base. Carter's original sentence of 360 months imprisonment with 120 months supervised release was reduced by the commutation.
