# Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr., commonly known as Gerald Ford, was the 38th President of the United States. A member of the Republican Party, Ford served as president from August 9, 1974, to January 20, 1977. He assumed the presidency following the resignation of President Richard Nixon and was the only U.S. president never to have been elected to the office, having initially been appointed Vice President following the resignation of Spiro Agnew.
